The young New Zealand singer Sophie Moleta arrived in France to do a few concerts equipped with nothing more than her Yamaha DX7. That was how her audience first encountered this spellbinding and greatly charismatic young woman. In just a few touches of the keys, in a couple of vocal phrases, " la Moleta " (as the French refer to her, much as they do to " la Callas ") portrays a world apart, personal and intimate, an intense blue-tinted landscape whose unevenness only adds to its strength.
